  • Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas will host USDA food distributions in Craighead County on Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at First National Bank Arena (217 Olympic Drive) and Caraway Housing Authority (325 Missouri St.) for qualifying households on a first-come, first-served basis.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Arkansas hunters competed in the Big Squirrel Challenge on Jan. 10 when they weighed their squirrels at an event organized by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (a contest likened to a fishing tournament) that showcased local outdoor tradition.  Delta Digital News Service
  • Hundreds of community members, including 100 Arkansas State University student-athletes, joined the MLK Day Parade on Monday in Jonesboro to honor Dr. King's legacy.   • Arkansas Delta Byways Awards returns Friday, Feb. 6 at Cooper Alumni Center on Arkansas State University campus in Jonesboro; the event starts with a silent auction and mixer at 5:30 p.m. ahead of a 7 p.m. dinner honoring nominees from 15 local counties.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Johnny Cash Boyhood Home will host the Roots and Rhythm Bus Tour on Saturday, Feb. 28, departing the Arkansas Welcome Center in West Memphis at 9 a.m. for stops at Sun Studios + the Southern Tenant Farmers Museum and Wilson for dinner; tickets cost $195.  NEA Report

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arkansas State University established the Dixon+McDonald+Turnbow Sisterhood Endowed Enrichment Fund to support full-time vocal music education majors with two $500 awards each year. The fund, created with a $25,000 gift, will help students attend regional or national conferences.  K8 News
  • Students, faculty, and staff at Arkansas State University and New York Institute of Technology ride free on Jonesboro JET A-State Routes with a valid school ID, connecting campus with city spots + schedules are available online to plan trips.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • UCA has released its Fall 2025 lists, recognizing Jonesboro students as Presidential Scholars and Dean’s List honorees. Local students met GPA and credit requirements — 4.0 for Presidential Scholars and 3.5 for the Dean’s List.  Jonesboro Right Now

  • City officials ask homeowners with storm shelters to register at jonesboroar.gov (information is confidential) so emergency teams can quickly locate shelters and know the number of people inside during severe weather.  K8 News

  • Suzanna’s Kitchen recalled about 13,720 pounds of grilled chicken fillets produced Oct. 14 after a lab test showed possible Listeria contamination; the products were shipped for foodservice in several states + no illnesses have been reported so far.  K8 News

  • Hundreds of Cardinals fans gathered at Embassy Suites in town today to meet current and former players, pick up autographs, and receive season tickets. The event featured entertainer Fredbird — a longtime crowd favorite — and celebrated a decades-long community tradition.  K8 News
