  • NEACTC students built heavy-duty jail bunks to ease overcrowding and earned a $5K thank-you gift from the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, announced Jan. 16. The funds now support a parent-teacher program (including student scholarships) for future projects.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Arkansas hunters donated over $1 million in December through the AGFC licensing system to help feed local families. The donations support ground venison delivery to food banks and help maintain balanced deer herds, officials said.  K8 News
  • Jonesboro resident Dr. Mark Conley received the Best of The Nest Award for lifetime accomplishments Wednesday at Phoenix Senior Living. He overcame early barriers, earned multiple degrees, spoke before Congress and completed marathons despite asthma as family and local friends celebrated his achievements.  K8 News

  • Craighead County officials lifted the burn ban on Wednesday after recent rainfall reduced the fire risk, and residents can resume outdoor burning (following state and local fire safety guidelines).  Jonesboro Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross launched its (Be the Hero) blood drive featuring a leukemia survivor’s story to show the need for donations amid a 35% drop. The drive ends Friday, Jan. 23 at Hilton Garden Inn’s Ozark Room in Jonesboro and in Paragould with a Super Bowl 60 trip raffle.  K8 News

  • Officials gave a progress update on the Ridge Athletics Center during Tuesday's council meeting. The 200,000 sqft sports complex on Race Street will include a 65,000 sqft gym and a 40,000 sqft natatorium—its opening is set for the first quarter of 2027 with Brandon Shrader named general manager.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Destinee Rogers, Mimi McCollister, and Marlie Dickerson led the Red Wolves to a win over Old Dominion on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Arkansas State’s (Jonesboro) home court. The win improved their record as the team prepares for upcoming contests.  K8 News
