  • After postponing its earlier date due to weather, the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas will host a food distribution event today at First National Bank Arena on Olympic Drive in Lot G (near the Yellow Entrance) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and is seeking volunteers to help manage traffic.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • Breaking Bonds Ministries, a faith-based treatment center for men, has been clearing snow from driveways and sidewalks across Jonesboro since Sunday morning to help residents reach medical appointments and essential services. The organization said it will continue clearing driveways until the snow melts.  K8 News
  • Beajai Vanwinkle was honored as January’s Gr8 Acts of Kindness award winner for her lifelong dedication to community service — including providing nursing care to Lawson and leading outreach projects. The award, presented in partnership with First Community Bank and K8 News, highlights her faith-driven compassion.  K8 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Law enforcement officials advised residents today to steer clear of frozen lakes, ponds, and rivers after a winter storm left the ice thinner than the 4-inch safety standard, warning that a fall could lead to hypothermia.  K8 News
  • With snow and ice melting, newly exposed potholes may form on roads when water in cracks expands upon freezing and thawing. Jonesboro crews will repair problems soon and residents can report issues on the city website.  K8 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cold weather and low humidity have led to increased nosebleeds and respiratory issues in Jonesboro, explained Dr. Shane Speights (New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at ASU), who advises residents to use saline nasal spray and a humidifier to ease symptoms.  K8 News
  • Lacey Wheeler, ER Director at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, received the Transitions of Care Award today from the Arkansas Department of Health for her work improving stroke care in the community.  Delta Digital News Service
