  • Plan Jonesboro launches its comprehensive planning process with an open house on Feb. 12 from 5-7 p.m. at Earl Bell Community Center, inviting residents to help shape city growth over the next 30 years. A workshop follows from March 30 to April 3 for further input.  The Fox 104.9
  • Hope Found of NE Arkansas received a $30,000 grant from the Arkansas Community Foundation to expand its prevention programs and advocacy for young people at risk of trafficking in Northeast Arkansas.  Northeast Arkansas News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local businesses are reopening after several days of closures following a recent winter storm. Business owners in Jonesboro and Paragould (including chef John Myers of the Parsonage) are implementing recovery plans to overcome revenue losses and winter challenges while encouraging community support.  K8 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dillinger Carr, a recent A-State PTA graduate from Jonesboro who earned an 800 on the National Physical Therapy Exam in July, now works at NEA Baptist Hospital while pursuing his BS in health studies.  The Fox 104.9
  • Lyon College named Dr. Carolyn Henry as dean of its School of Veterinary Medicine in Cabot on Friday, with her term set to begin on March 1. The college is expanding its veterinary program in collaboration with the City of Cabot to boost health sciences education.  K8 News
  • NYITCOM at A-State announced a partnership with SOFtoSOM to help military veterans pursue medical education. The collaboration will include tailored application reviews and recruitment events at the Jonesboro campus + support veterans in navigating their path to medicine.  NEA Report

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sanitation routes will resume normal pickup schedules next week after icy conditions halted service. A dumpster at 2650 Lacy Drive (available from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.) will accept excess trash from Monday, Feb. 2 to Friday, Feb. 6.  Mix 106.3
  • USPS is working to deliver mail in Northeast Arkansas after icy conditions from a winter storm temporarily halted deliveries on Tuesday, Jan. 27 — the agency said workers will resume service when roads are safe and reminded customers to clear paths to mailboxes.  Jonesboro Right Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas State held a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday for its new 40,000 sqft indoor baseball facility — it will include a full-turf infield, batting cages, pitching tunnels, a weight room, meeting spaces, coaches offices, and premium gameday seating. Construction will begin in the next few weeks and finish in about nine months ahead of the season opener on Feb. 13.  K8 News
