  • Arkansas State University Museum will host a talk by Dr. Gary Edwards at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 in room 156 to explore the origins of Black History Month, and guests may join a discussion on how African American communities in Arkansas responded to the call to celebrate.  Mix 106.3
  • The Ritz Civic Center hosted the fourth annual NEA Showstoppers talent show where 28 local performers raised $4,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital — Marybeth Byrd organized the event that offered $3,500 in cash prizes to winners.  K8 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Recent studies show that mental health services increased by 57% (over the past decade) as stigma faded, according to True Hope Counseling. The counseling office notes that more community members now share their therapy experiences to help tackle anxiety and depression.  K8 News

  • A-State men’s basketball fell in a 92-88 overtime loss to South Alabama Saturday inside First National Bank Arena, with Christian Harmon scoring a career-high 33 points in the game.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Arkansas State swept Stony Brook with a 12-5 win in eight innings at Slayton Family Field Sunday afternoon, thanks to three seventh-inning home runs that sealed the game & bolstered a strong debut by pitcher Dylan Farley.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Arkansas State struggled to secure points in a road game as they fell 54-62 to Marshall at Cam Henderson Center, Saturday afternoon in Huntington — Zyion Shannon led the Red Wolves with 17 points, and the team prepares to face Texas State on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Arkansas State’s seventh-ranked rugby team lost to third-ranked Lindenwood earlier this week on its Jonesboro campus. The loss adds an early setback for the team in a competitive season.  K8 News
