CULTURE NEWS

  • Arkansas State University's Theatre will debut Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5: The Musical at the Fowler Center’s Drama Theatre from Feb. 26 to March 1 — shows begin at 7:30 p.m. on select evenings and matinees on Feb. 28 and March 1 — tickets cost $15–$20; student tickets are free.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • The Art + Design department at Arkansas State University is hosting the Mid-South Print Exhibition with the Print Symposium scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26 at the Fine Arts Center & Bradbury Art Museum. The free event features visiting printmakers and student presentations.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Arkansas State University Museum will host an open-house event featuring the Through a Child's Eyes exhibition from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 in Jonesboro, and the art show will display works by children from pre-K through eighth grade throughout April.  K8 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nancy Benson Ward donated $100,000 to create the Dr. Bill W. Benson Memorial Scholarship at A-State’s College of Veterinary Medicine (opening fall) to support full-time veterinary students and honor her late brother’s dedication; the first award will be given during the 2026-27 academic year.  NEA Report
  • Brookland Public Schools Superintendent George Kennedy met with 12 licensed educators to notify them they will not be recommended for contract renewal next year amid a drop in student growth funds. The board will vote on recommendations on Monday, March 2 & balance the budget ahead of the millage election.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Ten teams of students from local high schools will compete in the annual Thrown to the Wolves innovation event on Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Centennial Hall of Reng Student Union, where local experts will judge their Shark Tank style projects.  NEA Report

  • Chandler Jackson scored 31 points, leading Arkansas State to a win against Louisiana in the Cajundome on Thursday and tying the program record for road wins (set in 1973-74 and 2024-25). The team will complete its road trip today at 2 p.m. against ULM at Fant Ewing Coliseum.  The Fox 104.9
  • This week, Kansas City Chiefs running back ShunDerrick Powell visited two classes at the Academies at Jonesboro High School after students asked to meet him following his game highlights. The former Northeast Arkansas player shared his journey to inspire local youth.  Northeast Arkansas News
