  • On Thursday evening, a local scouting group honored Dr. Chuck Welch as a Community Legend at the Red Wolf Convention Center—he served as a former A-State System President and now leads the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.   • Arvest Bank is launching its 15th Million Meals campaign on April 1 to raise 15% more meals and funds for local food partners until May 31—efforts designed to fight hunger ahead of summer. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash blocked both lanes of State Highway 351 near Craighead County Road 762 — it happened at 5:30 a.m. on March 14 — and E-911 advised drivers to take a different route until the road is cleared.  K8 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At its quarterly meeting this week, ASU System trustees celebrated the groundbreaking for the new College of Veterinary Medicine in Jonesboro and praised women’s basketball Coach Destinee Rogers for leading the team to a Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament berth. The $33.2 million facility will welcome its first students in fall 2026 + board members approved additional strategic actions.  NEA Report

  • With a tornado watch in effect until Saturday, March 15 at 3 a.m., JRN has compiled a list of public storm shelters across Craighead County (including the Courthouse Annex, Fox Meadow Elementary, and Riverside High School) that will be updated as more sites open.
