COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Anaya’s Way (a Jonesboro nonprofit providing humanitarian aid and immigration legal aid) is partnering with Parks and Recreation to host a free Children's Day Festival on May 2 at Craighead Forest Park, featuring vendors, door prizes, a talent show, a petting zoo, an adoption event, and a Touch-A-Truck display for families.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Brandon Shrader has been named general manager of The Ridge Athletics Center, a 200,000 sqft facility with courts for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball plus an Olympic-size pool and convention space that will open in early 2027.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas will host USDA food distributions on April 1 from 9 to 11 a.m. at two Craighead County sites, including Lot G near the Yellow Entrance of First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro and the Caraway Housing Authority; eligible households may participate once a month + verify their income and identity.  NEA Report

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NYITCOM at A-State is accepting applications for Project H.E.A.R.T., a free summer program for high school students interested in health careers. The Jonesboro session runs June 15-18 and the Arkadelphia session runs June 3-6 (with a campus visit), with applications due online by April 10.  NEA Report
  • Local first-grade educator Shelia Clay received help from the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund to return to school while raising her daughters. The program will host a Day of Giving at Native Brew Works on March 20 and a Scholarship Ceremony at St. Bernards Auditorium on March 22 in Jonesboro.  Northeast Arkansas News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews with Craighead Electric Cooperative worked to restore power Tuesday morning to 186 meters affected by 19 outages caused by broken poles — repairs on Rogers Chapel Road were expected by day's end, in Minturn after noon, and in Light by the afternoon.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • U.S. Senator Hattie Caraway is honored today at 9:30 a.m. when the Arkansas250 Commission will install a historic marker at A-State. The marker recognizes her legacy in our community.  Jonesboro Sun
  • The Delta Regional Authority plans to offer $4 million through the Delta Workforce Grant Program (DWP) to support workforce development projects in the lower Mississippi River Delta and Alabama Black Belt regions. Applications must be submitted by Friday, May 15 for awards ranging from $50,000 to $300,000.  K8 News

  • Arkansas State basketball coach Ryan Pannone is building his 2nd season roster for 2026-27 with commitments including transfer Tameron Ferguson (committed March 17) and signees Anthony Hester, Rho Omed, Aaron McGee, Delang Muon and Aliou Maiga while TJ Caldwell, Jaxon Ellingsworth, Jalen Hampton, Matt Hayman and Chandler Jackson exit.  K8 News
  • Arkansas State defeated Southern Miss 5-2 on Sunday afternoon to clinch the series and earn a national ranking. Coach Mike Silva told players to enjoy the moment as they gathered in right field in Jonesboro.  Jonesboro Sun
