- ➤ A Trumann man, 35-year-old Zachary Thompson, fled the scene of a hit and run in Jonesboro on March 18th after striking a bicyclist near Highland Drive Caraway Avenue—police located him nine minutes later with signs of impairment such as a broken windshield and blood on his car while the victim was airlifted for treatment; he now faces charges for battery, leaving the scene, and DWI drugs with a court date set for May 22. - ➤ Arkansas State University was awarded a $99,906 planning grant from the National Science Foundation to study upgrades for its high-end campus technology that supports research. The grant will fund focus groups and a cyberinfrastructure workshop this summer — steps that may lead to new equipment proposals later this year. NEA Report

- ➤ Powerful wind gusts up to 50 mph caused trees to fall and power lines to drop in Region 8, prompting five calls and a quickly controlled fire on March 19, the Jonesboro Fire Department said. - ➤ Traffic on the Black River Bridge on U.S. Highway 62 near Corning is limited to one lane until May 15 because of repairs scheduled from Monday to Thursday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.—both lanes reopen from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. and on weekends. K8 News
