Good morning, Jonesboro. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 25th of March.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, the Craighead County NAACP held a march along Washington Avenue — where protestors chanted for justice — ending at Rotary Park to honor Bloody Sunday and discuss voter rights, education and DEI issues. Later, organizers held a town hall at New St. John Missionary Baptist Church — featuring local educators and state representatives — to address community concerns and promote unity.  KASU
  • The Downtown Jonesboro Alliance and Nabholz Construction will host a free Lunch 'N Learn for kids to watch the wet demolition of the former Citizens Bank building on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Union Park—families must bring their own lunches and can ask questions about how water spraying stops asbestos from spreading.  Jonesboro Right Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Riceland Foods COO Ben Noble testified before the Senate Agriculture Committee and urged lawmakers to update the outdated Farm Bill so farmers have better support amid high costs and low prices. Dan Sullivan from Jonesboro filed Senate Bill 536 on Thursday to dissolve the State Library and its board by transferring its powers to the Department of Education while setting new funding rules for public libraries—such as required operating hours and restrictions on age-inappropriate material. The 28-page bill includes an emergency clause to take effect on July 1 at the start of the 2026 fiscal year, and libraries that fail to meet the hours may risk losing state funds.  KASU
