  • The Craighead County Historical Society will hold its quarterly meeting on April 8 at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church's Fellowship Hall in Jonesboro — themed 'Elvis in Craighead County.' Special speaker Betty Craft Klinke, who helped bring Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and Carl Perkins to Bono in the 1950s to raise funds for her school, will share her experiences at the event.  Jonesboro Right Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Drivers in Arkansas will pay slightly more for gas this week as the average price increased by 7.8 cents to $2.81 per gallon last week; the cheapest is $2.55 and the most expensive is $3.15—GasBuddy said prices may peak in mid-to-late April.  K8 News
  • Federal data show that Arkansas led the nation with a 5.1% GDP increase in the fourth quarter—exceeding the 2.4% national rate and marking it as the top state for economic growth. The rise was driven by agriculture and health care as Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders credited lower taxes and investments in education and workforce development.  Delta Digital News Service

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund awarded 97 scholarships worth over $137,000 to single parents from Northeast Arkansas during an awards ceremony on March 9 at St. Bernards Auditorium in Jonesboro. The scholarships, funded by local donors and state money, help cover costs for degrees and trade certificates.  The Fox 104.9

  • City Water and Light will flush its water systems next week in several Jonesboro areas, starting Sunday, April 6 and ending Friday, April 11. The flushing will run nightly from about 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. and may stir up minerals that cause water color changes — customers are advised to run faucets if discoloration continues.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • The burn ban in Craighead County was lifted after weekend rainfall improved fire safety conditions — residents are advised to follow guidelines and keep water nearby if burning outdoors.  Jonesboro Right Now

  • The University of Arkansas baseball team swept No. 13 Vanderbilt in Nashville on Sunday after Charles Davalan hit two home runs, marking their first series sweep since 1994.  Delta Digital News Service
  • The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said live-imaging sonar helps crappie anglers catch fish but does not boost the overall harvest. Fisheries biologist Andy Yung explained survey data show anglers using the new technology catch more fish but keep fewer and larger ones than those using traditional methods — a trend seen in state studies.  Delta Digital News Service
