- ➤ A storm front that stalled over Arkansas on Thursday is predicted to drop up to 12 inches of rain on the northeastern part of the state over the next two days + meteorologist Caitlin Dirkes with the National Weather Service in Memphis said the heavy rain could lead to flooding + the rain is expected to begin later today. - ➤ The Jonesboro City Council approved 15 new lights for Craighead Forest Park on April 1 by a 10-0 vote to add lights along a trail spur that connects the 3.2-mile loop to the parking lot. The lights will be installed by May (costing an extra $28,000 to bring the total to $272,000) so that early walkers and late park-goers feel safe on the trail. The Fox 104.9
- ➤ Today, the City of Jonesboro released its weekly update on the demolition of the old Citizen’s Bank building showing that demolition abatement is complete and equipment removal begins April 7—Union Ave will see intermittent closures on April 9 with a detour posted. Delta Digital News Service
- ➤ Craighead Electric Cooperative worked overnight to restore power for nearly 2,176 meters after a tornado hit on April 3; 614 meters still remain without service as teams fix broken transmission structures and downed wire—Jonesboro crews and others are supporting the repairs. Members in affected areas are urged to prepare for continued delays until the work is complete. The Fox 104.9
- ➤ Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has mobilized the National Guard in Northeast Arkansas — the 875th Engineer Battalion in Jonesboro will provide three high-water teams while the 224th Maintenance Company in Mountain Home will provide one — and more than 40 guardsmen are set to help evacuate residents from flooded areas.
