  • Residents in Lake City and Monette have been cleaning up after storms that brought tornadoes and heavy rain, which slowed progress. Local officials noted that volunteers and crews continue *working* on debris removal today and expect more support over the weekend.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas is facing abrupt federal funding cuts that will cancel Local Food Purchase Agreement funds after June 30—this will reduce food shipments by up to seven truckloads and cut approximately 400,000 meals from its local programs.   • After a tornado swept through Lake City last week, strong storms carried various cherished items such as teddy bears, shoes, cars and golf clubs—items that even crossed state lines—to unknown places while local Casey Kidd created a Facebook group to return these precious keepsakes to their owners.  K8 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas Senate approved a $10.3 billion appropriation for the Division of Medical Services for fiscal 2026—allocating $8.3 billion for hospital and medical services, $1 billion for private nursing homecare, and $625.6 million for prescription drugs—voting 34—0 on Wednesday and sending the bill to the House for further action.  Delta Digital News Service
  • On Wednesday, the Joint Budget Committee endorsed a revised bill that gives the state Department of Education $4M for youth organization grants in fiscal 2026. The bill—introduced by Sen. Kim Hammer—requires youth groups to submit a compliance letter and to match 25% of the grant before receiving a 75% match while not naming a funding source.  Delta Digital News Service

  • NEA Baptist will host a free lunch and learn session on April 24 at The Rock of NEA—Fellowship Hall to show residents how daily habits can affect long-term health. Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgeons Dr. Damon Kennedy and Dr. Ronald Smith Jr. will discuss the benefits and risks with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. and the program starting at noon.  NEA Report
