EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arkansas State University held its Distinguished Service Awards ceremony on Thursday evening, honoring six students for their achievements, including Jonesboro's own Rachel Mooneyham. Amber Yates received the R. E. Lee Wilson Award and was named Homecoming Queen while Jonathan Schaufler was named king—recognizing top academic and community success.  K8 News
  • At Arkansas State’s Convocation of Scholars ceremony held April 24th at the Cooper Alumni Center, the Beck College of Sciences and Mathematics honored its top graduating students from Jonesboro and nearby areas. Tess Monroe of Lonoke received the Chancellor’s Scholar award — the highest academic honor based on grade point average — while other students earned recognitions for scholarship, leadership and service.  Jonesboro Right Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, April 24th, the City of Jonesboro updated its demolition plans for the former Citizens Bank building at Washington Avenue and Main Street—sidewalk replacement is underway this week. Asphalt overlay work, traffic signal reinstallation and site stabilization will begin next week, with project completion planned for mid-May pending weather.  K8 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Reliance Health Care will build a 78,000 square feet skilled nursing facility in Parker Hollow in Jonesboro to improve elder care access and create new clinical, administrative, and support jobs—construction will begin later this year.
