- ➤ On March 20, police confronted 54-year-old Joe Versie—a Jonesboro man involved in a high-speed chase that ended on Interstate 55—and fatally shot him after he reportedly reached for a weapon, with a prosecutor stating the force used was reasonable and justified. K8 News
- ➤ A single mother from Jonesboro claims her autistic children were abused at Engage program under Dr. Tracy Morrison’s care (including physical injuries and academic setbacks) before she removed them, and authorities arrested Morrison and three employees on April 21 on child abuse charges. - ➤ The Arkansas Department of Transportation announced that the outside lanes of the Interstate 55 bridge at West Memphis will close for maintenance, so travelers to and from Memphis may want to use Interstate 40. The southbound lane will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 until Thursday, May 1, and the northbound lane will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1 until Wednesday, May 7 (with digital boards and cones in place). - ➤ A Jonesboro program called Rock Steady Boxing helps people with Parkinson’s stay active by offering non-contact boxing and exercise classes at St. Bernards Health and Wellness. Coach Barbara Armstrong—who started the program in 2012—said members like Richard Long and Jerry Clark have seen improvements in strength and coordination, and classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday.
