- ➤ A Craighead County jury convicted Jonesboro man 34-year-old Russell Dewayne Malone of second-degree murder for the March 10th, 2023 shooting death of Nicholas Childs at a Kum and Go on Southwest Drive and South Culberhouse — he received a 50-year sentence as a habitual offender. K8 News
- ➤ On April 26, witnesses said 22-year-old Henvonta Davis stabbed the mother of his child multiple times and apologized during the drive to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital — he was arrested there on a $100,000 bond and charged with first-degree domestic battery causing serious physical injury. - ➤ Yesterday, three individuals and three organizations from Arkansas State University and the Jonesboro community received the 2025 Excellence in Diversity and Champion of Diversity Awards at the Convocation of Scholars—an event that honored achievements in student access, campus impact and community engagement. - ➤ Dr. Fabricio Medina-Bolivar and Dr. Edward Schmid of Arkansas State University began a study on healthy aging by testing how plant extracts work with fruit flies, supported by a $75,000 grant from the Arkansas Research Alliance awarded April 28th. The grant marks the first time ARA funds were offered to researchers outside its Academy of Scholars and Fellows + the project may lead to new nutraceuticals to prevent age-related diseases.
