Two local bands held a Star Wars-themed music festival at Craighead Forest Park on May 4 to raise funds for tornado relief efforts in Lake City; they said they plan to hold the event annually.
🏛️ Government
Mayor Harold Copenhaver presented a revised plan on May 4 that uses franchise tax revenue to support revenue bonds for immediate projects including improvements to Caraway Road, a new 911 Dispatch and Intelligence Center, and pedestrian upgrades, with costs estimated at $16.0—16.5 million — a public hearing is set for May 20.
The Arkansas Department of Transportation will host a public meeting on May 8 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Westside High School’s Library and Media Center to gather input on plans to widen Highway 91—adding a third lane, sidewalks, a shared-use path and a roundabout at Highway 349 to improve safety and traffic flow.

Harold Horton, a college football coach who led the Bears to two national championships, died Saturday after a long illness.
He also worked as a UA assistant and is survived by his wife Betty, son Tim, daughter Holly, and five grandchildren — his career made him a key sports figure in Arkansas.
Arkansas State baseball lost to Southern Miss 14—2 on May 4 at Pete Taylor Park after Southern Miss scored 14 unanswered runs, and the team will host Troy on May 9 at 6:00 p.m. to seek a turnaround in the season.
