  • Jonesboro’s Hispanic Center partners with Native Brew Works to celebrate Cinco de Mayo today by donating 10% of all sales to the center and hosting a salsa dancing demonstration (6:30 p.m.) in the restaurant’s flex space.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • NASCAR legend Kyle Petty will visit Hardy this Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Hardy Civic Center where riders gather as part of the 30th annual charity ride to raise funds for Victory Junction — a camp offering adaptive programs for children.  NEA Report
  • Residents in Northeast Arkansas are invited to join the nation’s largest one-day food drive, Stamp Out Hunger, by filling a blue bag with nonperishable items and placing it by their mailbox Saturday, May 9.   • Jonesboro Unlimited received over $3 million from the Arkansas Site Development Program to extend wastewater infrastructure at Craighead Technology Park South. The planned upgrade will add wastewater access to the 600-acre site — boosting its appeal for industry investment — though a start date is not yet confirmed.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • Farmers in Cash face higher input costs with diesel now over $5 and fertilizer reaching $880 per ton amid inflation and the Iran conflict. They hope affordable relief arrives soon so they can sustain crop production—continued borrowing and high interest may force some to shut down.  Northeast Arkansas News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jo Ann Nalley of Jonesboro will receive the honorary Doctor of Public Service degree from Arkansas State University at the Spring Commencement ceremony (10 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at First National Bank Arena). GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas Department of Transportation unveiled a series of work zone safety PSAs featuring personal accounts from employees and law enforcement to promote the Slow Down, Phone Down campaign. HEALTH NEWS

  • Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced that $209 million in federal funds will soon be distributed to modernize rural healthcare, including $55.6 million for THRIVE telehealth and emergency improvements. Additional rounds will be announced in the next 90 days.  K8 News
  • Rising food and gas prices have forced the East Arkansas Agency on Aging to reduce meal deliveries and check-ins for seniors; some receive five frozen meals weekly. The agency is partnering with food banks and farmers markets in Jonesboro and beyond to ease a waiting list and address funding gaps.  K8 News
