  • JRN has partnered with local animal shelters to launch Pets of the Week—a new series featuring adoptable cats and dogs. The initiative spotlights pets like Sonnie, a 6½-year-old shepherd mix, and Billye, a friendly domestic short hair, available through local rescue programs.  The Fox 104.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Southside School District will host a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 21 for its new junior and senior high school additions — a 146,000 sqft expansion with a new cafeteria that received $22.7 million in state funding after three years of construction.  K8 News
  • Crews are restoring Arkansas State University's bell tower and clock on campus with a crane in place while new clock hands, a new center drive, and a retuned carillon add to the upgrade — construction will finish by the end of the week.  K8 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officers from Jonesboro PD, University Police and community partners will train tomorrow from 10 a.m. until noon at First National Bank Arena parking lot on the Blue Envelope Program, a tool that helps drivers signal communication and sensory needs during traffic stops.  NEA Report
  • The Arkansas State Police and law enforcement agencies are urging drivers to buckle up during the Click It or Ticket campaign — running May 18–31 — with strict nighttime enforcement to reduce fatalities from unbuckled occupants.  Jonesboro Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Arkansas State University launched a mobile vet service for large animals in Northeast Arkansas to help fill a rural shortage and offer hands-on training for veterinary students.   • Arisa Health said a $4.4 million funding loss will force changes to mental health services in 41 counties; the Jonesboro clinic on Browns Lane will remain open, but some mobile crisis and forensic services will end after June 30.  Northeast Arkansas News
