  • JRN partnered with local animal shelters to launch a weekly Pets of the Week series that highlights animals available for adoption and volunteer work—yesterday's feature included Penguin, a one-year-old cat who has been in the shelter for two weeks, and Londyn Bailey, a 5-year-old mix weighing 57 lbs and ready for a new home.  Mix 106.3

CRIME NEWS

  • Jonesboro police arrested 26-year-old Isaac Kelley after a traffic stop on May 10 near W. Johnson Avenue when officers found narcotics including psychedelic mushrooms, THC vape pens, and marijuana — he faces felony charges for drug delivery, drug paraphernalia, improper window tint, and no proof of insurance with a $100,000 bond set.  Jonesboro Right Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hundreds of A-State students walked across the stage and turned their tassels at the spring commencement on May 10 at First National Bank Arena—about 2,800 candidates earned degrees. Chancellor Todd Shields presented Ashley McBryde with an Honorary Doctorate in Music—Dr. Calvin White Jr. also helped confer the degrees.  Delta Digital News Service
  • At Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Sgt. Chase Barnett was honored Monday for using CPR and an AED to help save Leigh Anne Hall after she suffered a sudden cardiac event on Feb. 5. Rising sophomore Bridgett Sullenger was also recognized—A-State donated to the Unity Health Education Foundation to fund a new AED, and Hall has made a full recovery.  Jonesboro Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Arkansas Department of Health reported a measles exposure in Mississippi County from April 25 to 28; doctors warned that dropping MMR vaccination rates among younger children increased the risk of infection. Pediatrician Dr. Adam Hurst said unvaccinated children might suffer severe illnesses such as pneumonia—parents are urged to vaccinate their children promptly.  K8 News
