Jonesboro firefighters Hunter Pagan and Jonathan Edwards took part in a combat fitness challenge in Baton Rouge this week.

A judge on May 16th set a $100,000 cash/surety bond for 23-year-old Jarius Markes Winston from Marion after police said he choked a woman and stole cash, an iPhone and a MacBook on Lexee Drive on May 5th—he is charged with robbery, aggravated assault, theft and domestic battery and must have no contact with the victim.

Jonesboro police arrested 19-year-old Zander Hill after a shooting near Latourette Lane and Medallion Circle on May 7; District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause on May 14 and set his bond at $35,000 cash-surety with a no-contact order (Hill is scheduled to appear in court on June 27).

A Jonesboro man was released on a $250,000 cash/surety bond on May 16 after police found drugs, firearms — and evidence of drug sales on his phone during a search at his home on Cedar Heights Drive, leading to charges that include possession with intent to deliver.

The Arkansas State University Esports team won its first national title on May 16th when it captured the NECC championship — a win that shows the team is ready to work together for more wins.

The team plans to build on its victory as it prepares for future competitions.

The JETS Aquatic Club offers free swim assessments for kids ages 5 to 19 at the Jonesboro City Pool as it prepares for the summer season beginning June 1.

Registration starts on May 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. with extra sessions on May 27, May 28, and May 29 to 30, while membership fees begin at $249 for the first child (scholarships are available for qualifying families) and the team will compete in AAU meets after rejoining the South Wind Swim Conference.

Arkansas State baseball clinched its first Sun Belt Conference Tournament berth since 2021 with a 3-0 shutout win over Louisiana on Thursday night at Russo Park (Galy pitched six scoreless innings while relievers Nelson and Richter limited Louisiana to two hits).

Arkansas State’s Jacob Pyeatt earned the Men’s Track Performer of the Year honor on May 16 by setting a meet record in the 5000 meters after winning the 10,000 meters, & Bradley Jelmert received the Men’s Elite Award for his high academic performance.

Eleven Red Wolves were honored at the Sun Belt Conference and the Final Qualifier was canceled, with the team set to compete in the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds from May 28.
