- ➤ The Beck Center for Veterans will host its fourth annual Run to Remember race on Saturday, May 23. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the 5K starts at 8 a.m. at the Lt. Col. Frederick C. Turner Jr. Military Science Building (1915 Aggie Rd), with proceeds supporting veteran services. NEA Report

- ➤ Jonesboro grocery stores report ground beef at about $5 per pack and hot dog favorites from $4 to $7 (Memorial Day cookouts are on the horizon). Shoppers are preparing as increased visits are expected closer to the holiday. Northeast Arkansas News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Arkansas State University welcomed incoming freshmen Tuesday as they attended orientation sessions focused on engineering, computer science and science majors; new students toured campus, met advisors and learned about available resources. - ➤ The Jonesboro Public Library is launching the Creative Writers’ Workshop for adults on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Civic League Room (registration required by Monday, June 8) to help writers develop creative and nonfiction skills. The Fox 104.9
- ➤ Southside School District has named Jimmy Hodges as its new superintendent — he will officially take over after current superintendent Dion Stevens retires at the end of the school year. Hodges spent 10 years as principal at Southside Charter High School. Delta Digital News Service
