  • The petition to approve the $900K settlement for the wrongful death lawsuit of the Jonesboro man who died in police custody was withdrawn on May 20 at 3:01 p.m.—Turn Key Health and Tyner’s estate will submit a written settlement to the Circuit Court once finalized.  The Fox 104.9
  • A Jonesboro man, 23-year-old Michael Robinson, was accused of first-degree domestic battery after police said he shook a 2-month-old baby—causing severe injuries including a brain bleed—on May 16 and he was given a $150,000 bond at a May 21 court hearing with a June 27 next court date scheduled.  Jonesboro Right Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • With school letting out soon, many Jonesboro high school and college students are now searching for summer jobs. The Parks and Recreation Department and other local employers are hiring for roles such as lifeguards, concession workers, and maintenance help in preparation for Memorial Day weekend.  Northeast Arkansas News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Windgate Foundation awarded $9.49 million in grants on May 21 to Arkansas State University to support scholarships, arts education initiatives and community outreach. The grants include $5.2 million for need-based scholarships, $3.1 million for the Bradbury Art Museum and $1.19 million for the Windgate Center for Three-Dimensional Arts – a package that will bolster long-term education at the university.  Jonesboro Right Now

  • On May 21, a public hearing reviewed a $17.5 million revenue bond plan to fund capital improvements such as a new E-911 Center, Caraway Road expansion and new bike and pedestrian trails—city council will vote on the ordinance on June 17 with construction planned to begin in spring 2026.  Jonesboro Right Now
