COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Parker Park Pool reopened today after cleaning and maintenance finished ahead of schedule — the pool resumes normal hours as confirmed by Jonesboro Parks and Recreation officials.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • Skirmish: A Delta Gravel Festival kicked off Thursday night and will continue through Sunday with nearly 300 cyclists from 15 states riding on Delta gravel roads. The main race starts tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. from downtown & a free family ride begins Saturday at 9:30 a.m.  K8 News
  • Crews began repainting the large logo signs on 314 Union St.'s historic building yesterday to refresh its look and mark a new chapter. Parking on the north side was blocked off (for public safety) and detailed painting by artist Katie Coleman will begin Monday, June 1.  The Fox 104.9

  • Jonesboro’s second 7 Brew will open at 1701 Visions Ave on June 22. The new location offers free small drinks in select time slots during opening week and hosts Swag Day on June 27 from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. & plans to hire local crew.  Mix 106.3

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that local gas prices averaged $4.01 per gallon for unleaded fuel, an 11-cent drop from last week + $1.23 higher than a year ago. Experts say prices could decrease slightly during the summer driving season amid fluctuating crude oil values.  K8 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At last Friday’s Commencement and Hooding Ceremony in Jonesboro, NYITCOM at A-State honored Shane Broadway with the inaugural Barbara Ross-Lee Higher Ground Award — recognizing his contributions to advancing health education and access. Broadway has held key ASU System roles, including interim chancellor of ASU Three Rivers.  NEA Report
  • Arkansas State University professor Dr. Andrew (Drew) Fleming was one of 12 selected statewide to receive the Emerging Research Leaders Program grant, which provides $30,000 a year for two years to help faculty develop federal proposals. He plans to pursue multimillion-dollar projects and expand student research at the university.  K8 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Arkansas officials reported 28 fire deaths by May 27, noting that only 2 of 26 homes in fatal fires had working smoke alarms and urging residents to install, test, and replace batteries monthly to lower risks.  The Fox 104.9

  • Arkansas softball Razorbacks and Nebraska Cornhuskers compete today at the Women’s College World Series Opening Day game as both teams seek a strong start (game details are drawing local interest).  Delta Digital News Service
