CRIME NEWS

  • Jonesboro police arrested Frank Anthony Martus—a 39-year-old man—on May 30 after he broke into a local fire station, took keys from a fire truck and a city gas card which he later returned before officers arrived; he faces multiple felony charges and will appear in circuit court on July 31.  K8 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Arkansas officials projected a $214.8 million surplus for Fiscal Year 2025 due to tax filing extensions ordered by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders after severe spring storms—these extensions delay some collections until July 31 and reflect reduced income tax rates. Sales tax collections in May surpassed forecasts by $6.6 million, contributing to the state’s stronger revenue flow.  Delta Digital News Service

  • FEMA approved a disaster declaration after severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding hit Arkansas in March and April, and the agency now offers individual assistance to help with housing repairs, rental costs, and other recovery needs. Applications for aid in March-affected areas are due by July 14 while those affected by April storms must apply by July 21—claims can be submitted online, by phone, or via the FEMA app.  Jonesboro Right Now

  • Twenty new physicians will join St. Bernards Healthcare in 2025—bringing 10 new or expanded medical specialties to northeast Arkansas and southeast Missouri.
