  • Construction continues at Allen Park as crews work on a new inclusive playground and splashpad to be finished around the end of June or beginning of July—weather permitting. The project is part of the Master Parks Plan and is designed to improve access for all children.  Jonesboro Right Now

  • Jonesboro Media Group and First Horizon Bank launched the Meet Me on Main series to promote downtown businesses, and the series features J. Hilburn Stylist Studio at 234 S. Main where owner John Frankel offers a custom-made clothing experience that starts with a 30-minute measurement session and ends with garments delivered in two to four weeks + he noted that fast downtown traffic may call for slower lanes. The studio has been open for a year and a half and offers appointments Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The Fox 104.9

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested after police said he choked a woman during a domestic disturbance call on Monday, June 9 in Brookland—he faces charges of aggravated assault, interference with emergency communication, and kidnapping or false imprisonment while being held on a $125,000 bond.  K8 News
  • Brookland police arrested 37-year-old PastCanell Jackson on June 12 after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend on Cardinal Street—she sustained visible injuries and was prevented from leaving her home—and a no-contact order has been issued with his bond set at $125,000.  Mix 106.3

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Rick Faris Band will perform bluegrass music at Collins Theatre in Paragould at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 23 as part of KASU 91.9 FM’s Bluegrass Monday series—acoustic musicians are invited to join a jam session at 5 p.m. at the adjacent Joe Wessell Building with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.  NEA Report
  • The Jonesboro Public Library is hosting a tween tie-dye party on Wednesday, June 26 from 3 to 4 p.m. in its Round Room at 315 West Oak Avenue—tweens will learn the history of dye and explore the cultural significance of purple while using their own items to create designs.  Northeast Arkansas News

HEALTH NEWS

  • NEA Baptist launched the Chris and Jamie Fowler Family Physician Recruitment Fund to bring more specialty doctors to northeast Arkansas. The fund grew to $10 million after a $5.6 million donation by the Fowler family and other pledges and will pay full medical school tuition to attract doctors in needed fields.  Delta Digital News Service

SPORTS NEWS

  • Three Arkansas State track and field athletes competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 12. Bradley Jelmert cleared 5.63m (18-5 ½) for a bronze finish and All-American First Team honor, while Noa Isaia earned an All-American Honorable Mention by throwing 65.08m (213-6) and Colby Eddowes finished fourth in the decathlon with 4,112 points.  Jonesboro Right Now
