COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jonesboro will host a moving tribute on Friday, June 20 to honor fallen EMS professionals including paramedic Mark Gibson and 28 others who lost their lives in 2024. Emerson Ambulance Service will escort the procession from 9 to 9:30 a.m. and the ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the Regional Chamber of Commerce (1709 E. Nettleton Ave.).  Mix 106.3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University is hosting Project HEART from June 16 to June 18 (a residential camp) to give incoming 11th and 12th graders hands-on exposure to healthcare careers, including a cow’s heart dissection. Medical students lead sessions that help students see what college-level medical training could be like.  K8 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A map shows population changes in Arkansas counties from July 1st, 2023 to July 1st, 2024 — 40 counties gained population with Benton County increasing 3% while 34 counties declined and five counties saw no statistically significant change.  Delta Digital News Service
  • On June 17th, the Jonesboro Advertising and Promotion Commission discussed long-term projects including converting part of Main Street to a one-lane road, enhancing mosquito abatement, planning a new shooting sports complex clubhouse, and studying a golf facility at Joe Mack Campbell Park. Commissioners approved $7,500 for the Main Street study and $22,000 for the golf study — further reviews will set future steps for the clubhouse and mosquito measures.  The Fox 104.9

  • Arkansas pitcher Gage Wood made history Monday in Omaha by throwing the first College World Series no-hitter in 65 years. Host Matt Jones and Bubba Carpenter discussed the Razorbacks' 1-1 start and what the team must do next to stay competitive.  Delta Digital News Service
  • Arkansas pitcher Gage Wood threw a no-hitter with 19 strikeouts on 119 pitches for a 3-0 win over Murray State in the College World Series, helping the Razorbacks stave off elimination after a 4-1 loss to LSU.   • Allegra van der Walt, one of South Africa’s top junior talents, signed with Arkansas State women’s tennis as head coach Sujay Lama announced Tuesday—she ranked among the top 300 juniors and won six ITF singles titles, and will join the Red Wolves in the fall.  Jonesboro Right Now
