  • The Family Crisis Center will host Voices of Courage: An Evening with Kit on Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro—featuring a free screening of the HBO documentary Private Violence and a panel discussion with survivor and advocate Kit Gruelle to honor Purple Thursday and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • JRN partnered with local animal shelters to launch Pets of the Week—this program highlights animals ready for adoption and volunteer work. Estella, an 8-month-old tabby, and Links, a 22-week-old dog, are in the shelter while waiting for new families.  The Fox 104.9

CRIME NEWS

  • Jonesboro Delta Squad arrested four suspects—Jaidyn Lofton, Allen Udell, Ryan Warren and Daronta Brown—after an early morning car theft near Nettleton and Clark, where officers found key fobs, electronics and tools; Ryan Warren faces extra charges due to four outstanding warrants in Poinsett County.  Northeast Arkansas News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hundreds of early childhood educators will meet Aug. 5-7 at Red Wolf Convention Center on the Arkansas State University campus for the 53rd Annual Early Childhood Education Conference. The event, led by Jo Ann Nalley, will include a keynote by Kelly Matthews & offer sessions, vendor booths, pop-up experiences, and a fun fair with continuing education opportunities.  NEA Report

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Emergency 911 Communication Center in Jonesboro and Craighead County launched a new program that guides 911 callers on life-saving measures such as CPR and bleeding control after all 26 dispatchers completed 40 hours of training. Last week a dispatcher guided a caller through CPR—showing that the program can help save lives.  K8 News
  • Today, the City of Jonesboro and Arkansas State University will discuss a contract at the Finance and Administration Council meeting to expand bus routes that serve campus stops, student residences, and key locations—if approved, the three-year pilot will operate buses Monday through Friday with limited Saturday service starting August 16 and free rides for ASU and NYITCOM students with valid IDs. Future plans include adding additional routes to serve events and other community venues.  K8 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jonesboro is expecting near 100 degrees for a couple days and doctors warn that infants, the elderly & those not used to outdoor work, medications that cause sweating, and people with cognitive disabilities are most at risk for heat-related illness. Residents should drink water, take breaks, and stay indoors while watching out for signs like headache, nausea and fatigue.  K8 News

  • Arkansas State Athletics Department announced plans for the 2025 home football season at Centennial Bank Stadium with themes, sponsors, and giveaways for all six games. The season will kick off on Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. against SEMO and feature promotions like Paint The Vault Red, Family Weekend, and Heroes Day—offering fans items such as cooling towels, banners, and digital camo caps.  Jonesboro Right Now
