- ➤ Hundreds of professionals will gather from Aug. 5 to 7 at the 53rd annual Early Childhood Education Conference held at Red Wolf Convention Center—adjacent to Embassy Suites on the Arkansas State University campus. The event will offer interest sessions, vendor booths, pop-up experiences and a fun fair for earning PDR hours and CEUs, and longtime organizer Jo Ann Nalley, who began the conference in 1973, will lead the proceedings. - ➤ Valley View Public Schools is mourning the loss of 14-year-old Bentley Peterson—he was a junior high student who played trombone and acted in the theatre program. - ➤ The state Department of Finance announced Tuesday that Arkansas taxpayers can extend the deadline to file 2024 state income tax returns and pay taxes until December 3 if they attach the IRS notice or check the federal extension box. The relief follows natural disaster orders that set the previous deadline to July 31 and does not extend estimated tax payment due dates — taxpayers may call the finance department with questions.
