  • The Stuff the Bus event will begin soon as local volunteers and organizations work to collect school supplies for students to ease family expenses — marking its 20th anniversary with a growing collection that has reached over 20,000 items. Social worker Whitney Avila and assistant principal Tim Lamb said the event shows Jonesboro's strong support for education as students prepare for the new school year.  K8 News

  • The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center at Arkansas State University will host free consulting sessions and seminars in August to help local business owners with funding, planning, and marketing. CRIME NEWS

  • Jonesboro police responded Saturday night at 9:35 p.m. on State Street after gunfire, finding one person with a minor injury treated at the scene and a man with a non-life-threatening wound taken to the hospital, while a 33-year-old suspect was arrested on charges involving a deadly weapon—JPD is continuing its investigation.  NEA Report

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NYITCOM at A-State held its White Coat Ceremony Saturday where 124 future doctors joined the tenth class at the Fowler Center in Jonesboro—students with a doctor in their family had a special moment—and two students were honored with the Dr. Michael and Julie Isaacson Scholarship.  K8 News
  • The University of Arkansas held its spring graduation ceremonies on Aug. 2nd at Bud Walton Arena and Barnhill Arena—where over 5,500 graduates, including Jonesboro students, had their names added to Senior Walk. Chancellor Charles Robinson said the event honored the hard work of students, staff, and families—marking an important milestone in academic achievement.  The Fox 104.9
  • Campus planners at A-State will host Wolves Up Week to welcome new students for the fall semester beginning Aug. 10—this kickoff includes Party with the Pack on Aug. 16 with free food and lawn games. The week will add Splash Bash on Aug. 17, Flight Night on Aug. 18 with tethered hot air balloon rides, and will end with Order of the Pack on Aug. 28—preceding the home football game on Aug. 30.  The Fox 104.9
