ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Six people died and seven were injured in five wrecks on Arkansas roads between Sunday and Wednesday—police reports detail crashes on Arkansas 16 in Van Buren County, Interstate 57 near Newport, Arkansas 141 in Jonesboro, Spring Creek Road in Yell County, and Arkansas 229 in Grant County.  Delta Digital News Service

CRIME NEWS

  • Jonesboro Police arrested several juveniles for vehicle break-ins that occurred on Aug. 16 after investigators received 16 reports and recovered stolen items—two vehicles, computers, guns, and credit cards—that are being processed for return to their owners.  K8 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jo Ann Nalley—a longtime A-State staff member of 54 years and early childhood education leader in Jonesboro—received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Fall Faculty Conference on Aug. 22. Her work began in 1969 with a model kindergarten program and has since secured over $256 million in grants to support teachers and young learners across the state.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Westside Consolidated School District will begin expanding Westside High School with a 40,000 square foot addition that includes a new cafeteria, ten classrooms, safe spaces, and bathrooms built using district funds. Construction will take 18 months and the project will be ready for the 2027-2028 school year—extending from the front of the building to Highway 91 without a millage increase.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • NEACTC students built beds for the county jail after the sheriff’s office asked for help — seven beds are finished and plans for 25 more are in progress, giving students hands-on learning in fabrication.  K8 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Bernards Healthcare welcomed cerebrovascular neurosurgeon Nicolas 'Nick' Khattar, M.D.—a graduate of the Semmes-Murpey Clinic fellowship—to expand stroke treatment with mechanical thrombectomy and complex spine surgery. He lives in Jonesboro with his family and joins a team focused on enhancing brain health in our community.  NEA Report
