- ➤ The NEA District Fair starts today in Jonesboro at the fairgrounds behind Nettleton Baptist Church on Johnson Avenue and will run until September 27. - ➤ Arkansas State University’s Neil Griffin College of Business will host Catalyst: NEA Economic Development and Leadership Forum in Jonesboro on Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event will focus on agriculture, entrepreneurship, infrastructure and regional collaboration—featuring industry leaders such as Laura Landreaux, CEO of Entergy Arkansas, and Dave Stickler, CEO of Hybar to share insights for future growth. - ➤ Police Chief Rick Elliott reported that one year of the downtown entertainment district did not lead to an increase in police calls. He said 965 calls were made from August 2024 to September 2025—146 of these were for criminal activity, 18 for alcohol offenses and 30 for drug issues—and he credited rideshare use for fewer DWI incidents. - ➤ Arkansas Secretary of State Cole Jester announced on Wednesday the One State One Vote initiative to work with other states to remove duplicate voter registrations—his office said it will investigate cases and remove voters who have permanently moved to help secure elections for Arkansas' 1.7 million registered voters. - ➤ On September 17th, NARTPC committee members met to review an updated MPO project list that included a $30 million overpass on Red Wolf Boulevard and a $32 million railroad overpass on Hwy. 91 to improve local intersections. They also discussed long-term curb and gutter work along Red Wolf Boulevard — a project still needing cost estimates — and noted ARDOT updates set for fall and next summer. Jonesboro Right Now
- ➤ Today, the USPS began upgrading the Jonesboro Sorting and Delivery Center with new trucks and updated technology to speed up mail processing—employees benefit from brighter lights and renovated work areas that serve over 100,000 customers; these upgrades are part of a national plan to modernize operations. - ➤ Contractors began demolition at Keiser City Park today to clear a site for a new bike and walking track—city officials said areas in the work zone have been closed for safety and neighbors should exercise caution near the park. Northeast Arkansas News
