ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Late Wednesday night on Sept. 17, the Golf North Hills Country Club building at 94 Craighead County Road 776 was heavily damaged by a fire, and firefighters from the Philadelphia Volunteer Fire Department with help from the Brookland Fire Department stopped the flames from spreading while the cause remained under investigation. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Warrior Center in Jonesboro is hosting its 4th semi-regional job fair today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Parker Park Community Center where about a dozen local organizations — including the City of Jonesboro, ARDOT, and St. Bernards — are offering job openings and hosting drawings and giveaways. - ➤ Arkansas State University freshmen will take part in the first Freshman Day of Service on Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.—over 2,000 students will work on projects assigned by academic colleges—and a Nonprofit Tabling Fair is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Heritage Plaza lawn. NEA Report
- ➤ STEAMfest will take over the Arkansas State University Museum on Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offer hands-on STEAM activities — experiments, art projects, and building stations — for kids and adults. NEA Report
- ➤ The Arkansas State University Alumni Association will honor six distinguished graduates with the highest alumni award during Homecoming. The honorees, including three from Jonesboro, will be recognized at the Red Wolves football game on Oct. 25—marking their achievements in leadership and service. The Fox 104.9
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The ongoing drought in Northeast Arkansas is lowering water levels—forcing fish into shallow, warmer pools with less oxygen and increasing the risk of death. Officials with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission advise residents to report large numbers of dead fish to the Division of Environmental Quality. K8 News

- ➤ A Baxter County woman won $100,000 in the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery after trusting her gut when she bought a $5 instant ticket at 24 Hour Fuel in Mountain Home—she said she will use the money to build a home and continue playing the lottery. K8 News

- ➤ At a special meeting on Wednesday, the library board in Jonesboro voted unanimously to approve Comfort USA’s bid of $755,914 to replace the HVAC system at the public library—project work will begin soon. K8 News
