COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tim McCall said Main and Union Streets will close today at 6:30 p.m. for the Downtown Jonesboro BBQ Festival, which runs Friday and Saturday and reopens roads Sunday at 8:30 a.m.—new vendors and events like T&R Wrestling and a Foam Party will add extra fun while JET buses run to special stops.  The Fox 104.9
  • Robert Chambers, a Vietnam veteran, American Legion member and longtime volunteer firefighter from Monette was honored with the Gr8 Acts of Kindness award for his legacy of service. Nominated by Michell Masner Steele, he now faces interstitial lung disease and is celebrated for his selfless work to help others — his life reflects a deep commitment to his community.  K8 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Arkansas farm leaders told lawmakers in Stuttgart that if federal aid does not come soon, one in three family farms may close after this season — a move that could hurt local communities and small businesses. They warned that aid will only be available by fall, a delay that adds to the crisis in the agriculture industry.  NEA Report

  • Students at Arkansas State University will participate in an inaugural Lab Safety Awareness Week from Sept 29 through Oct 3 in Jonesboro—live demonstrations will highlight safe practices in campus labs.  Delta Digital News Service

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jonesboro received a preliminary report that found non-weather damage at the Justice Complex requiring $115,000 to fix the ceiling joists—leaving the building unsafe until repairs are done. City officials will discuss options at the next council meeting and plan to move police offices since the complex cannot be torn down because of its link to the E911 Center.  K8 News
  • Mark Nichols has announced his campaign for State Representative for District 1, which covers Clay County and parts of Randolph and Greene counties, and he aims to protect children online, improve highways with ARDOT, support family farms and enhance education. The candidate, a licensed professional engineer with community-focused experience in local government and transportation projects, said he will listen to community needs while managing taxpayer-resources efficiently.  NEA Report

  • The Red Wolves volleyball team beat Arkansas and are entering Sun Belt play. Players Cail and Glunz earned weekly awards—showing the team is ready for upcoming matches.  K8 News
  • A-State men’s basketball finalized its 2025-26 non-conference schedule yesterday with seven road trips and six home games—plans include a scrimmage on Oct 26 at First National Bank Arena and season open on Nov 3 in Ohio. Head coach Ryan Pannone said the schedule also features matchups against Saint Mary’s, SMU and a multi-team event in Jonesboro.  Jonesboro Right Now
