  • The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund named Shaneka Brandon from Craighead County as Volunteer of the Month for September — a recognition of her dedicated support for single parents statewide.  Jonesboro Sun
  • On Friday, September 26, United Way of Northeast Arkansas held its annual Day of Caring as 616 volunteers and 44 businesses completed 75 projects across the area. The event awarded over $28,000 in grants to local groups — including projects in Jonesboro, Paragould, and Lafe.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • On Friday, Sept. 26, the KAIT team joined United Way at the food bank to pack 11,658 meal boxes with pasta and canned vegetables for families in need in Lawrence and St. Francis counties—helping address food shortages for nearly 80,000 Northeast Arkansans, including many children.  K8 News
  • Allen Park in Jonesboro added new shaded picnic tables and benches — giving parents a cool place to sit while watching children play on the all-inclusive playground and splash pad. The park upgraded these areas earlier this year to serve kids of all abilities.  Northeast Arkansas News

  • Today, Goldman Sachs begins training 35 Arkansas small business owners in its 10,000 Small Businesses program with a $20 million investment through Hope Enterprise Corporation to support rural businesses. The program partners with University of Arkansas-Pulaski Technical College and follows a 2023 session with 22 entrepreneurs—expanding its reach statewide.  Delta Digital News Service

  • Family-friendly Halloween events will take place in Craighead County starting Oct. 3 (with shows at the Forum Theater and local venues) and continue through Nov. 1, offering musical comedy, trunk or treat block parties, and fall festivals in Jonesboro.  Jonesboro Right Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arkansas State University will mark Disability Awareness Month in October with a series of events hosted by its Department of Access and Accommodation Services that educate the campus and Jonesboro community on disability topics. The schedule includes a kickoff event on Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Reng Student Union and an art exhibit on Oct. 13 at the Fine Arts Center Art Gallery—highlighting student creativity.  Jonesboro Right Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Engineer Mark Nichols announced this week that he is running for the Arkansas House District 1 seat—left open as Rep. Jeremy Wooldridge seeks a state Senate seat—in the 2026 election. Nichols—who worked for the Arkansas Department of Transportation and the city of Jonesboro—said he plans to slow farm consolidation and improve highway infrastructure to support local family farms.  Delta Digital News Service

  • Valley View beat Paragould on Friday, September 26—earning recognition as Game of the Week—and boosted the team’s standings for the season. The win is expected to lift team morale before upcoming matches.  K8 News
