CULTURE NEWS

  • Sonny Hunt, a local musician loved for his mentoring and music, died Thursday at the Phil and Flo Jones Hospice House at age 68 after battling dementia. A visitation is held today from 1:30–3:00 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home and a burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery after a brief service.  The Fox 104.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On September 27th, the Foundation for Jonesboro Public Schools awarded more than $50,000 in grants to teachers across the district. The organization received over $120,000 in applications and ensured each school received at least one grant—its largest award to date.  Jonesboro Right Now

  • Local farmers have dealt with long work hours, isolation, and heavy physical labor, and years of low profits have added financial stress that is worsening their mental health—pushing some to the brink.   • The Red Wolves women's and men's basketball teams held their preseason tip practice on September 27th as players and coaches worked on drills and teamwork to prepare for the season.  K8 News
  • University of Arkansas receiver Raylen Sharpe said he is not swayed by Notre Dame's famous brand as his team prepares for Saturday's 11 a.m. game where the Fighting Irish will make their first appearance in the state.   • The Red Wolves baseball team held a fall intrasquad scrimmage on September 27 — coaches used the event to evaluate players for the upcoming season.  K8 News
  • At the UA Board of Trustees meeting Friday, Razorbacks athletics director Hunter Yurachek clarified his remarks from the Little Rock Touchdown Club and said the football program is not as well positioned as other sports for a national championship because of less financial backing.   • Arkansas State football lost 28 to 16 to ULM on Saturday—leaving the team with a 1 to 4 record after Brandon Greil returned an interception for a touchdown before ULM took control in the second half. The Red Wolves will host Texas State next Saturday at 3:00 p.m. on ESPNU.  K8 News
