  • Cavenaugh Hyundai, Sonic and Jonesboro Media Group are hosting the 'Drive Away in a SantaFe' giveaway event at 11 a.m. Saturday at the dealership on Stadium Blvd where one local participant will win a 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV valued at over $41,000 and cash prizes will be awarded during a ten-week promotion. The event also offers live music starting at 9 a.m. and free food while supplies last — visitors must show a text invitation and a valid driver’s license from AR, MO or TN to enter.  Jonesboro Right Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Students at Arkansas State University are taking part in Hispanic Heritage Month with free events that started Sept. 15 and will run until Oct. 20. Dr. Latika Johnson of the Multicultural Center said the events—like panel discussions, dance workouts and a board game—honor Hispanic culture.  The Fox 104.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arkansas State University's bachelor's programs in civil—electrical—mechanical engineering have been reaccredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET after completing self-study documents, a campus visit and follow-up reviews. The six-year accreditation confirms that graduates are eligible for technical licensure and reinforces the university's commitment to quality education.  NEA Report

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jonesboro officials debated possible sites for a proposed E-911 center Tuesday as they compared a Washington Avenue location near the Justice Complex with a spot next to the police headquarters on Caraway Road. Councilman Chris Moore and Police Chief Rick Elliott shared concerns over higher costs and disruptions—while a follow-up meeting is set for Oct. 21 to decide the final site.  K8 News
  • Jonesboro city leaders say the Caraway Road expansion will get $5.5 million from the latest revenue bond—part of a $17.5 million package for local infrastructure improvements. Two properties remain to be acquired—utility work may begin this winter with bids expected in spring 2026.  Northeast Arkansas News

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Bernards Healthcare in Jonesboro held a ribbon cutting for its new Longevity Center on Tuesday. The center helps patients fight chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes with a team approach (led by Dr. Barry Tedder) and is open Monday-Friday from 8am to 4:30pm.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • Arkansas Endocrinology clinics in Jonesboro and Little Rock officially joined the Arcare network on Sept. 30, and Dr. Duvoor will continue caring for patients as their appointments and treatment plans remain unchanged — patients now gain access to expanded healthcare resources.  Jonesboro Right Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas State University will honor its undefeated 1970s football team on October 4th at 3 p.m. during the game against Texas State—records show the team finished 11–0 and won the Southland title even though they did not play in a bowl game.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Defensive tackle Carnell Jackson, a 3-star prospect from Auburn, Ala.—who first received his Arkansas offer on March 14—reopened his recruitment after Arkansas fired coach Sam Pittman and three defensive assistants following a loss to Notre Dame. He later added offers from Kansas State, Houston and Southern Miss, making him the fourth defensive pledge to change his commitment since the coaching changes.  Delta Digital News Service
