  • The Jonesboro Salvation Army opened online applications for the 2025 Angel Tree Christmas Program Thursday to help families in Northeast Arkansas have gifts under the tree, and organizers said the system may be slow—users should be patient.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • Logan Williams started a youth baseball tournament to raise money and awareness for Down Syndrome—it has already raised over 50,000 dollars for the Mid-South Down Syndrome Association. This weekend, the tournament will be held at Joe Mack Campbell Park — with over 100 teams competing in Jonesboro and Conway—as it plans to expand next year.  K8 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • El Centro Hispano invites the community to join its Día de los Muertos celebration on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 6 to 11 p.m. at A-State Cooper Alumni Center where live music, dinner, dancing, and a lively auction will take place — tickets cost $80 per person.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • The Newman Center on A-State will host a pumpkin fest on October 12 to mark its 33 years on campus (the event is planned to celebrate its anniversary).  K8 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today in Jonesboro, representatives from the Arkansas National Guard and the Arkansas State University System signed a memorandum at the Lt. Col. Fredrick C. Turner Jr. Military Science Building to create a career resource center and offer leadership programs on ASU campuses—this agreement will give students tuition help, scholarship guidance and academic credit for military training.  NEA Report

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arkansas recorded $636.3 million in net available general revenue in September, which was 8% lower than last year—income and sales tax gains partly offset lower corporate tax collections. DFA Secretary Jim Hudson said the first quarter ended with revenue above forecast, showing a stable fiscal picture.  Delta Digital News Service
  • Jonesboro City Water and Light was awarded a $2.96 million grant—boosting downtown power by replacing 271 poles and aging transformers so homes and businesses have more reliable electricity—and planning is underway with construction to start soon once bids are received.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • Downtown Jonesboro will see road closures over the next two days for events. Today, Main Street from Huntington to Cate avenues closes from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. for Meet Me on Main: Game Day Edition while tomorrow, Main Street from Washington to Cate avenues, Huntington Avenue from Church to Union streets, and Alley from Cate to Monroe avenues will be closed from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. for PRIDEfest.  Jonesboro Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced that Arkansas is applying for federal funds through the Rural Health Transformation Program—aiming to boost access to doctors, hospitals, and essential services in small towns and rural areas. A new portal lets providers and nonprofits submit ideas with proposals due October 10 and final submissions due November 5.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • St. Bernards will host the 2025 Wings & Clays event to raise funds for heart care—starting November 1 with the Double Barrel Dinner at its auditorium and continuing November 3—4 with a clay shooting tournament at the Jonesboro Shooting Complex. The event will feature food, raffles, a live auction and music by Eli Adams to support lifesaving heart and vascular programs.  Delta Digital News Service
  • The Arkansas Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will host the annual Northeast Arkansas Out of the Darkness Community Walk to raise suicide awareness in downtown Jonesboro on Oct 11, with check-in at 10:30 a.m. and the walk starting at 1 p.m.—the event will also offer children’s games, resource vendors, and free hamburgers, chips and drinks.  Jonesboro Right Now
