- ➤ USDA announced plans to phase out its annual Household Food Security Reports because the agency said the reports offer only subjective—liberal fodder instead of clear data on hunger. Arkansas will no longer be labeled as the hungriest state even though the number of people needing food support has not dropped. Delta Digital News Service
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Arkansas colleges used the new Sports Raffle Act to hold raffles where the prize money was split between winners and schools — Razorbacks raffles in May, June, August and September produced jackpots up to $282,645 with winners receiving up to $141,320. Other schools have held or plan to hold their own raffles, letting winners claim their prizes within 120 days. Delta Digital News Service
- ➤ Marion held on to beat West Memphis 28-25 on October 10th—delving into a close contest that featured several teams; Salem beat Atkins 20-14, EPC won 20-16 over Cross County, Newport defeated Osceola 34-10, Rivercrest edged Hoxie 28-21, and Corning bested Cave City.
