- ➤ Jonesboro Police Department is asking for individually wrapped candy donations for its Trunk or Treat Block Party. Donations can be dropped off any time before the event on October 29 at the police department on South Caraway Road — the fire department station 1 or the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office. - ➤ Hytrol and Dan’s Health Club will host the 2025 Hytrol Industrial Park 5K/10K run on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. until noon at 2020 Hytrol St. to benefit the Jonesboro Church Health Center (registration fees are $25 for the 5K and Spirit runners and $35 for 10K runners until Oct. 31, with fees increasing on Nov. 1) and early registrants (by 8 a.m. on Oct. 17) will receive a race T-shirt while the first 150 participants get a swag bag. - ➤ The Foundation of Arts is hosting the annual Perspectives Art Contest from Nov. 3 to Nov. 7 at the Forum Theater where artists aged 5 and up can turn canned goods into votes for the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas. Community voting will run from Nov. 10 to Nov. 14 — each canned item counts as one vote. K8 News

- ➤ Black River Technical College reported a slight drop in overall Fall enrollment to 1,629 students compared to last year. The college welcomed 253 new freshmen + saw a 12.6% rise in its Career and Technical Center enrollment that shows growing interest in hands-on training. K8 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Arkansas Department of Transportation began a nearly $6 million upgrade at the busy intersection of Highway 49 and Parker Road in Jonesboro. The project will widen lanes, shoulders and add new turn lanes while expanding Parker Road and adding sidewalks, and traffic delays are expected until it is completed. Delta Digital News Service
- ➤ On Monday, Craighead County officials expressed cautious optimism about their finances as they reviewed the budget with three-quarters of the fiscal year complete—officials stressed that funds are being monitored carefully during this busy season. Jonesboro Sun
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital patients with UnitedHealthcare insurance will face increased costs after November 15 (the hospital and its clinics, urgent care centers and providers will be deemed out of network) except for emergency care, which remains billed at in-network levels. The hospital said it is working to keep services accessible (urging UnitedHealthcare to act in the community's best interest). K8 News
- ➤ Arkansas officials confirmed avian flu in Mississippi County when they destroyed a 60-bird chicken flock on Oct. 10—local experts warned chicken owners to reduce contact between birds to stop the spread. The county is monitoring waterfowl migration and urging careful flock management to prevent further infections. K8 News
