- ➤ Fisher Street Community in Action is collecting toy donations from Jonesboro residents+ the nonprofit is holding its Christmas toy drive for children up to age 12 and accepts contributions until December 21. Northeast Arkansas News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, Oct 13, the College of Veterinary Medicine at Arkansas State University set its final beam in place, moving the project closer to its anticipated opening next fall—completion is expected next spring. Chancellor Todd Shields said the new college will train animal health professionals to support producers, clinics and communities. Delta Digital News Service
- ➤ Ramsons Construction through its Ramsons Arts Partnership is matching every donation dollar for dollar up to $10,000 to help Williams Baptist University students attend the Sundance Film Festival and Windrider Summit in January in Park City — the funds will cover travel, lodging and event fees. Dr. Trevor Babcock will lead the group — he said the trip is meant to show students how faith and film connect. NEA Report
- ➤ Olivia Sloan, an A-State senior in biological sciences and a Walnut Ridge native, was selected to join the prestigious St. Jude National Symposium for Predoctoral Research this week in Memphis—she will present her research on long noncoding RNAs in age-related heart disease on Friday and network with experts. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Jonesboro is upgrading sidewalk and side path projects with a $17.5 million revenue bond approved in June; work on a new side path at West Jefferson Avenue is underway while planning continues for projects on East Johnson Avenue, Prospect Road/Elizabeth Lane, and South Caraway Road—each set to be finished by 2026. These upgrades respond to the growing need for safe pedestrian routes as more residents choose to walk to work and local spots. Northeast Arkansas News
