COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jonesboro will host its annual Veterans Day Parade on November 1 at 10 a.m.+ a ceremony will follow at the Craighead County Courthouse; local groups and businesses are invited to participate and if the weather is poor, the parade will be moved to November 15.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • Residents in Jonesboro will be able to drop off unused items for November’s Neighborhood Cleanup at Grace Baptist Church on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.—city staff will assist in loading items into dumpsters and offer recycling for glass and cardboard. Those unable to attend will be able to drop off unwanted glass at the City Incinerator on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and during weekday hours from 7 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • The Salvation Army has reopened its Angel Tree signup for 50 families today at 10 a.m.—only the first 50 to register will be accepted—and the site will close automatically when the spots fill.  Northeast Arkansas News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Traffic signals malfunctioned on Oct. 20 at East Highland Drive and Nestle Road and police managed the situation — drivers were advised to use caution.  K8 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Police responded to a social media threat at Riverside High School last Friday and detained a 17-year-old non-student—no weapons were found—after investigators quickly traced the post.  Northeast Arkansas News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Department of Art + Design at Arkansas State University will host its seventh annual Halloween Arts Bash from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Windgate Center for Three-Dimensional Arts—free activities for all ages and tote bags for the first 100 guests complete the event details.  Delta Digital News Service

ECONOMY NEWS

  • For the second week in a row, regular unleaded gasoline in Arkansas dropped 7 cents to $2.55 a gallon—about 22 cents lower than a month ago and nearly 27 cents less than last year—while experts said increased oil production may keep prices below $3 in the coming months.  K8 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arkansas House Speaker Brian Evans signed a letter on Oct. 15 urging Congress to take immediate action to relieve the Southeast forestry industry from tariff pressures and a pesticide ban—which the letter outlines by requesting a 90-day tariff notice and a trial period for pesticide use. The letter, co-signed by representatives from four other states, seeks policy changes to protect forestry jobs and boost regional exports.  Delta Digital News Service
  • The Arkansas Department of Transportation awarded millions in grants to Bono, Paragould, and Trumann for new sidewalk and trail projects. In Bono the funds will upgrade Oak Street, in Paragould a creek trail bridge will be built for safer school access, & in Trumann the money will extend the sunken lands trail behind the high school.  K8 News

  • Crislyn Rose and Zyion Shannon have been named to the ALL SBC preseason teams—while the Red Wolves are predicted to finish second in upcoming contests, a choice that reflects high expectations for the season.  K8 News
  • The sixth-ranked Arkansas State women’s bowling team opened its season with a runner-up finish at the Penguin Classic hosted by Youngstown State—after a series of close matches against Vanderbilt and Jacksonville State—and lost the final game to Nebraska while Karli VanDuinen and Alex-Anne Auclair earned All-Tournament honors.  Jonesboro Right Now
