COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Native Brew Works will host its fourth annual Friendsgiving event on Nov. 10 to raise funds for the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas—local restaurants The Parsonage, Southern Confections and The Rec Room will join to help serve a Thanksgiving meal. Tickets cost $35 per plate when purchased by Oct. 31 and $40 after that, with all proceeds benefiting the food bank.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Downtown Jonesboro will soon get an outdoor space on Cate Avenue that will include a dog park, an amphitheater, beach volleyball courts and a green area with lounge seating — a project designed by Martin Smith of the Ecological Design Group and announced by Ted and Amanda Herget from Math Investments on Oct. 23. Construction is set to begin soon and will be complete next summer.  K8 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Maliha Razvi Ali, an MBA student at A-State’s Neil Griffin College of Business, earned the PMP certification from the Project Management Institute after months of focused study balancing her coursework and exam prep. She became the first graduate student to earn the certification (her professors provided strong support), marking a major milestone ahead of her December graduation.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Construction on Brookland Public School’s new intermediate school is progressing and it is set to open in July for the 2026-2027 school year. The 83,000 square-foot facility will serve 750 third and fourth graders and includes improved traffic flow — with separate drop-off and bus areas — as part of a $30 million project funded by second lien bonds.  Jonesboro Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • New FAIR Health data ranks Arkansas as the fourth state for opioid abuse disorders—program coordinator Joseph Veer from Northeast Arkansas Regional Recovery Center said high prescription rates lead to dangerous drug use and called for fewer prescriptions and more awareness. Veer urged those struggling with addiction to get help while warning that opioid issues impact entire families.  K8 News
  • The UAMS Center on Aging Northeast is running its second donation drive to collect warm socks and blankets for seniors in local assisted living and senior centers, and donations will be accepted at select sites until November 18.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • The United Breast Cancer Foundation relocated its headquarters from New York to Jonesboro — and it is hosting a Mattress and Pink Bag event at 2712 Phillips Drive to offer breast cancer patients and survivors a free queen-size mattress and essential items. The event will continue until October 31 as part of the foundation’s 25th-anniversary celebration.  Northeast Arkansas News
