- ➤ Downtown roads from Union, Matthews, and Warner are closed today from 1:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for the Jonesboro Police Department’s Trunk or Treat Block Party scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the corner of Matthews and Union — city officials will update plans if the 90% chance of rain affects the event. - ➤ Downtown Jonesboro will have road closures today for a trunk-or-treat event — Union Street from Oak to Jefferson, West Matthews Avenue from Main to Madison, and Warner Avenue from Union to Madison — and drivers should plan alternate routes to avoid delays. Northeast Arkansas News

- ➤ At Arkansas State University homecoming, Abigail Spain from Milan, Tenn. was crowned queen and junior CJ Sterrett from Dumas was named king after students voted on Oct 23, and the festivities ended with a Red Wolves win against Georgia Southern, 34-24. NEA Report
- ➤ Arkansas State University’s Delta Center for Economic Development and the College of Liberal Arts and Communication announced today the launch of the Northeast Arkansas Regional Leadership Accelerator Academy — a six-session program set for 2026 to build local leadership skills. The program costs $750, holds sessions on selected Tuesdays from Jan. 13 to Nov. 10, and requires applicants from across the region to apply by Nov. 14. NEA Report

- ➤ The City of Jonesboro announced Tuesday that November’s Neighborhood Cleanup has been relocated to University Heights School of Medical Arts—3901 Aggie Road—and will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1st. City staff will help load items into dumpsters while glass and cardboard recycling and free paper lawn bags are available as supplies last. Jonesboro Right Now
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Sylamore Bio, an Arkansas Delta biotech company, received a $3 million NIH grant to fund Phase II research for a treatment for GM1 gangliosidosis, a rare and fatal brain disease in infants. The company will use the funds to choose a lead candidate and optimize its SyLEC platform — which is designed to carry drugs past the blood—brain barrier. K8 News
- ➤ St. Bernards Healthcare will offer free lung screenings on November 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Imaging Center in Jonesboro and at Five Rivers in Pocahontas. Eligible adults between 50 and 77 with a 20-year tobacco history can drop in or schedule appointments at CrossRidge in Wynne and Lawrence Healthcare in Walnut Ridge—this effort aims to detect lung cancer early.
