COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This Saturday in Jonesboro, local heroes will be honored in a Veterans Day Parade that starts at 10 a.m. in downtown Jonesboro. The best spot to watch is in front of the Craighead County Courthouse and a short program will follow—if it rains, the parade will move to November 15.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • Arkansas Blue and Blue Shield launched the Take Good Care Food Drive to help Arkansans facing food insecurity from expected SNAP benefit cuts. The drive will run through November 14 and accept nonperishable food and personal care items at several Arkansas Blue Welcome Centers — including one in Jonesboro.  K8 News
  • Arkansas State University will host Bill and Alice Nix Farm Day at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Judd Hill Farmers’ Market, where families can see livestock demonstrations, crop exhibits and student-led learning stations. The free event will invite community members to enjoy hands-on activities that honor our state’s farming history — a reminder of agriculture’s role in our local life.  NEA Report
  • The 6th Annual Wings & Clays event benefitting St. Bernards Heart Care Center will kick off this Saturday with a Double Barrel Dinner—featuring live music, an auction, and raffles to support heart care services.  K8 News

  • The Call in Craighead County held a ribbon-cutting for its new Resource and Support Center in Jonesboro on Wednesday to give foster children a safe place for visiting their families and getting support. The nonprofit, working with local agencies and churches, added key features—like a child-friendly bathroom—to help children and foster parents and built a room—for meals and reading—to improve visits.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • Several Sonic locations in Northeast Arkansas will donate 10% of all sales from participating restaurants to the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas Thursday — all six Jonesboro sites are joining the fundraiser along with locations in Brookland, Trumann, Paragould, Bono, and Walnut Ridge.  Delta Digital News Service

  • Jonesboro biotech SylamoreBio received a $3 million NIH grant to boost pre-clinical research on a treatment for GM1 gangliosidosis at A-State’s Catalyst Innovation Center—research led by Walter Acosta and Tianhong Yang. The firm, co-founded by Carole Cramer, will use the funds to further its work with a team of 12 employees.  Delta Digital News Service

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arkansas State University’s Delta Center for Economic Development and the College of Liberal Arts and Communication have launched the Northeast Arkansas Regional Leadership Accelerator Academy, a six-session program scheduled for 2026 that will offer hands-on training in leadership, strategic planning, and stress management. The program—set for Jan. 13, March 10, May 12, July 14, Sept. 15, and Nov. 10 with a tuition fee of $750 and limited to about 25 participants—aims to boost community leadership skills across the region.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Arkansas State University’s Delta Center for Economic Development is inviting local high school students to register for the Thrown to the Wolves competition—an event where teams of one to three students will pitch business ideas. Registration is open until Nov. 21 and the competition will take place on Feb. 25, with winners set to receive cash prizes, a one-time scholarship, and a year of free workspace.  NEA Report
