COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Oct. 1, 2025, employees from the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas and volunteers from the Epsilon Zeta chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta distributed 36,000 pounds of fresh produce and shelf-stable foods to help feed hungry neighbors in Craighead County—after receiving a $10,000 grant from the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation.  Delta Digital News Service
  • Food pantries in Northeast Arkansas brace for growing need as the government shutdown continues into November. Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced on Friday that $500,000 will be allocated to food bank networks — local partners have stocked up supplies and some restaurants are offering free soup to those affected.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • The Mayor Youth Advancement Council is accepting donations for the 2025 Giving Tree as items including gloves, scarves, blankets, socks and hygiene products can be dropped off at the Municipal Building on Church Street. The Giving Tree will be set up on November 17 — a day for those in need to choose essential items.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • Nettleton High School EAST will hold the Unified by Service luncheon and program on November 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—at St. Bernards Auditorium 505 East Washington Avenue—to honor local military veterans, and guests must RSVP by calling 870 897 0020.  Northeast Arkansas News

  • Delta Symphony Orchestra and Link Theatre — two local arts groups — will present 'The Secret Garden' — a live stage production — on Nov. 8-9.  K8 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Arkansas dropped 6.4 cents last week to $2.54 a gallon after a recent 6-cent rise, according to a GasBuddy survey of 1,826 stations. The drop made prices 17.2 cents lower than last month and 15.9 cents lower than a year ago, though national prices may soon reverse if refinery challenges continue.  K8 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Annie Camp Junior High EAST students are preparing for the annual EAST Feast on Dec. 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the school cafeteria—gathering donations from businesses like Popeyes and Lost Pizza to serve a community meal with leftovers going to The Salvation Army while they await a response from JET for free bus rides.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Students from ASU Newport’s culinary arts program cooked three soups and beef stew with donated ingredients on Monday to feed students in need across the university’s three campuses+ They prepared about 100 meals that will be delivered to campus food pantries to help support those affected by the federal shutdown+  K8 News

  • Craighead County will light the courthouse green from today until Nov. 11 to honor veterans as part of the national Operation Green Light campaign. Residents and businesses are invited to join by displaying green lights at their homes or offices.  K8 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jonesboro residents with Parkinson’s or related disorders are invited to join Arkansas State University’s free Speak Out! Therapy Program that offers evidence-based speech and swallowing treatment. The program, run by the Department of Communication Disorders and the Parkinson Voice Project, provides services in-person (2501 Danner Ave in the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Health Sciences) and by telehealth while also training graduate students.  Jonesboro Right Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • A-State men's basketball secured an 89-85 win over Ohio on Monday night after erasing a seven-point deficit. Head coach Ryan Pannone made *history* in his debut, and the team will travel to Nacogdoches on Nov. 7 to face Stephen F. Austin.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Arkansas State’s defense delivered a dominant performance against Troy on Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium by recording nine sacks and limiting Troy to 187 yards. The Red Wolves improved to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play while standout plays from Demarcus Hendricks, Bryan Whitehead and AG McGhee helped secure the 23-10 win—now the team will prepare to face Southern Miss on November 8 at 11 a.m.  Northeast Arkansas News
