  • The Daughter of the American Revolution donated $47,000 to the Veterans Cottages of Jonesboro to improve housing, health care, and homeless support services for veterans — the contribution is set to enhance the facility’s services.  Jonesboro Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Saturday, November 8, Douglas MacArthur Junior High School hosted a camp where students learned trade skills such as electrical work, plumbing, CPR, and trucking from Phi Beta Sigma and Word Baptist Church—school officials said the event will expand with a spring session to give more students practical work skills.  The Fox 104.9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The government shutdown has made the FAA cut flights at major airports including Memphis, which may slow holiday travel for folks flying for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Experts advise passengers to have a backup plan—travelers should be patient if delays continue.  K8 News
  • Gov. Sanders directed another $500,000 in emergency funds from Restricted Reserve to state food banks on Nov. 8 to ease growing hunger during the federal shutdown—nearly a quarter million Arkansans on SNAP will soon see help as the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance starts distributing the money to six Feeding America food banks on Monday.  K8 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Red Wolves head coach Butch Jones spoke after his team lost to Southern Miss and said the players were disappointed but ready to improve. He stressed that the team planned to adjust its strategy for upcoming games—aiming to learn from the loss.  K8 News
  • Arkansas State volleyball clinched its second consecutive Sun Belt Conference West Division title with a 3-0 sweep of South Alabama on Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Gym in Mobile. The team, led by Addison Collum and Devyn Lewis, will face Old Dominion on Nov. 14-15 inside First National Bank Arena (the match airs on ESPN+).  Jonesboro Right Now
  • NEA high school football teams are in state playoff brackets spanning 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A and 8-Man (with first round games on November 14th) and second round games on November 21st (updates will follow).  K8 News
