  • Jonesboro’s Elks Lodge #498 hosted a dinner event with the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, and the American Legion to celebrate the Marine Corps’ 250th birthday ahead of Veterans Day — honoring local veterans for their sacrifices. Wes Holt and other organizers said the event shows strong community support and hopes to inspire similar traditions in the future.  K8 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Stem-Kibler family has restored a 15,000-square-foot downtown building at Main Street and Monroe Avenue into the SWS Building to honor late CNI president Sean Stem, who died in a plane crash on January 4. The building will house offices for Construction Network Inc, Visions 2000 and AWN and will hold an open house in 90 days—while retaining historic elements like exposed brick and tin roof.  Jonesboro Right Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Arkansas State University’s Theatre Department will present 'The Thanksgiving Play' by Larissa FastHorse at Fowler Center’s Simpson Theatre in Jonesboro. The play is a funny look at the problems of a very careful Thanksgiving pageant and will run in two sets — November 14–16 and November 21–23 — with shows at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and a matinee at 2:30 p.m. on Sundays.  NEA Report

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Last week, Arkansas gas prices jumped by 9.4 cents to an average of $2.64 due to refinery issues and a drop in supply — experts say upcoming flight cancellations may limit future price drops.  K8 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arkansas State University added 10 new solar-powered charging stations on campus this week to offer outdoor charging for electric scooters & lower fire risks from indoor charging. The stations can charge up to eight devices at once and require students to secure their scooters with personal locks & complete a registration for added safety.  NEA Report
  • On Monday morning, students at International Studies Magnet School in Jonesboro planted six shade trees provided by the Arkansas Department of Agriculture (ADA) to cool their playground and learn about forest care as part of the ADA’s STOP program. Each of the school’s six houses will care for a tree they name as it grows.  Northeast Arkansas News

  • Attorney General Tim Griffin visited Arkansas State University Monday to launch the One Pill Can Kill initiative that trains students to spot fentanyl dangers and use naloxone and testing strips for emergencies — Chancellor Todd Shields said the program uses opioid settlement funds to keep the Red Wolves safe.  Northeast Arkansas News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Arkansas agriculture officials urged poultry growers to adopt biosecurity measures after confirming the first case of HPAI in a backyard flock in Mississippi County last month. The department advised owners to quarantine new birds and limit wild bird contact—steps meant to protect flocks as flu season nears.  K8 News
