  • After nearly 30 years, the Jonesboro Community Thanksgiving Meal will feed about 2,500 people on Thanksgiving Day, Nov 27, from 9:30 a.m. until noon at St. Bernards Auditorium — 505 E. Washington Ave. The event will offer a new menu with turkey, chicken, and ham donated by Boar’s Head, and volunteers are welcome to help from 9 to 9:30 a.m.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • Today, a leader from Cornerstone Methodist Church spoke about the Glorious Giving Market that will raise donations for local needs — the interview explained how neighbors can join the event and help their community.  K8 News
  • On Friday, a $47,000 donation was made by the Arkansas Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (ARDAR) to the Veterans’ Cottages in Jonesboro, boosting transitional housing for veterans. The funds will support ongoing efforts by the city, Arkansas State University and the Beck Center for Veterans.  NEA Report

  • Acclaimed pianist Dr. Mary Chung will perform a free concert at Williams Baptist University's Manley Chapel in Walnut Ridge on Monday, Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m.—she will play works by Mozart and Chopin and collaborate with Dr. Trent Broussard on operatic arias and spiritual songs.  NEA Report

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arkansas State University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science hosted its annual Alumni Academy gathering where nine new members were inducted, raising total membership to 90—faculty, students and alumni attended the event. The ceremony also presented the inaugural Alumni Academy Annual Scholarship by awarding $1,000 to Brooke Gerau.  Jonesboro Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Attorney General Tim Griffin and Arkansas State University today launched the One Pill Can Kill initiative — teaching college students in Northeast Jonesboro about fentanyl dangers through hands-on overdose training and naloxone use. The state-funded program uses opioid settlement funds and will expand awareness efforts to additional college campuses this school year.  NEA Report

  • Ollie's Bargain Outlet signed a lease for 30,000 SF at 1907 Woodsprings Road after Big Lots closed—making it the retailer’s first store in Jonesboro, with LRG Commercial and Location CRE handling the deal; the busy retail corridor near Woodsprings and Parker Roads is set to draw more shoppers once the store opens.  NEA Report
