COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Arkansas State University pre-vet club and community members are collecting pet food and supplies for the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society to help struggling pet owners, with donations accepted until Dec. 4. Items can be dropped off at local spots (College of Agriculture lobby, Lab Sciences East building, Reng Student Union student help desk, Hollywood Feed, Tractor Supply Co. and Jonesboro Police Department).  K8 News
  • Local fire crews and store managers advise Jonesboro residents to follow kitchen safety tips as Thanksgiving nears. They warn not to fry turkeys on wooden surfaces and to fully thaw them before using hot oil—keeping children and pets away from heat to prevent burns and fires.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • Jonesboro City Hall now hosts a Community Giving Tree that offers residents warm clothing, blankets, and hygiene items free of charge+ the Mayor’s Youth Advancement Council set up the tree and plans to bring a traveling version to upcoming community events.   • Legacy Lane Collective is hosting a winter blanket drive and collecting donations through December 1; neighbors can donate new or gently used blankets at Arkansas Federal Credit Union on East Johnson, Department of Workforce Services on Nettleton and First Community Bank on Chancery Lane.  Northeast Arkansas News

  • Both boards announced that local leader Justin Etter has been named CEO of Craighead Electric Cooperative and Empower Broadband and will guide the organizations into a bright future. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bradbury Art Museum opened at Arkansas State University today, featuring artwork by high school students from 14 regional schools—award winners were honored in various categories and exhibitions will run through Dec. 17. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Arkansas farmers are facing an 8% drop in net income in 2025 due to spring flooding that reduced crop receipts and planted acres—economists report lower total cash receipts along with a 13% drop in crop receipts. They say 2026 will bring higher soybean and corn margins and increased government assistance that may help ease the decline.  K8 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jonesboro is upgrading its public transit system by connecting the university campus with a new route that started in August 2025 and adding hybrid trolleys earlier this year. The city is revamping the municipal airport with a terminal set to finish in July 2026—while parks and trails projects work to improve access throughout the community.  Delta Digital News Service

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Bernards Healthcare in Jonesboro began over 125 years ago during a malaria outbreak and now runs three hospitals, 260 affiliate sites and over 50 specialties including advanced trauma and the region’s only NICU.   • Coach Ryan Pannone plus players Jaxon Ellingsworth and Christian Harmon recapped their team's 74-63 win over Jax State, saying strong teamwork and defense powered the victory. They noted key plays and smart adjustments that helped secure the win.  K8 News
  • High school football playoffs have seen all No. 1 teams win recently. Greenwood in Class 6A beat Jonesboro 59-21 while Bryant shut out its opponent 42-0 — keeping top rankings as the season nears its end.  Delta Digital News Service
  • On Sunday, Arkansas State won its seventh Sun Belt Conference volleyball tournament championship by taking the final two sets 25–20 and 18–25 against James Madison, which earned the team an NCAA bid.
